I hold the wheel with both hands, the road it looks bent
Another hopeless romance with thoughts of whatever went
Out the door as they flew, I said good-bye I love you
And in a way, I didn't even understand
As we ended it all like some lost dreamer on the street
Lyin' limp with an old broken crutch
Dyin' a death deadly bitter, so bitter so sweet
Left behind on the corner, with the blankets, the papers, and such

Blue car drivin, truck painted black,
These images come and they go
I put the brakes on the pain, and pull it way back
To that place that we both used to know... long ago

Even the sun has its reasons to burn to the bone
But it didn't help us as we darkened our days
Stayin' bright with no future, and keepin' the tone
Of a loser who loses his way
Just expecting the changes to come as they would
Like a season of healing and trust
Without even tryin' to turn bad into good
Yeah we ended up walkin', away, in the cold, in disgust

Blue car drivin, truck painted black,
These images come and they go
I put the brakes on the pain, and pull it way back
To that place that we both used to know
Full of smiles, full of kisses, full of something called love
Painted softly with the touch of a rose
Now the headlights keep comin', ain't no sign from above
As I'm leavin' my life and my home... way behind

So make another wrong turn, take what's left of what's right
As the past slowly passes away
To a future that's dark, I'm livin' deep in the night
Where'd that area go that was gray
Oh our love was our freedom, our song of the road
Now it lies broken with the slip of your clutch
Slowly forgotten with dust on the load
Left behind in that ditch of a memory, we'll soon call nothin' much

I got a blue car drivin, there goes a truck painted black,
These images come and they go
I put the brakes on the pain, and pull it way back
To that place that we both used to know... long ago

Blue car drivin, truck painted black,
Blue car drivin, no I'll never turn back,

Blue car drivin, let it all fade to black,

Yeah a blue car drivin'...
